TIME FOR A NEW BATTERY?!?
|
 |
Car batteries are the strong, silent member of the automotive team. They do their job regardless of heat, cold, or the drivers who demand so much of them. While a battery that allows a car to start at the first turn of the key is a joyful thing, it doesn't last forever. So, the rule of thumb is simple for battery replacement. You have approximately four years before the battery will begin its slide from chemical powerhouse to chemical paper weight. At the four year mark, start watching, and hope your mechanic will detect a problem before it's too late. But due to the chemical cocktail inside any battery, it may give out before the four year mark, or maybe it will last several more years. So you have to ask yourself, "do you feel lucky?" |

WARNING SIGNS YOU NEED NEW BRAKES !!
LOOK AND LISTEN!
There are 2 ways to check for brake wear on disc brakes; by looking and listening. First, check the wear by looking at the pads through the spaces between the wheel spokes. The outside pad will be pressed against the metal rotor. Generally, there should be 1/4" of pad. If you see less, you may need to have your pads inspected or replaced. Have you ever heard a high pitched screeching sound when you apply the brakes? That's a small metal shim called an indicator, which is giving you an audible sound that you need to replace your brake pads.
REDUCED RESPONSIVENESS OR FADING
If your brakes are not as responsive as they used to be or if the pedal "sinks" to the floor, this could be an indication of a leak in the brake system. It could eithee be an air leak or a fluid leak. Don't delay having this one checked out!
PULLING
If your vehicle pulls to one side while braking, it may be a sign that the brake linings are wearing unevenly or that there is foreign matter in the brake fluid. Your vehicle may need a brake adjustment or have the fluid drained and replaced.
GRINDING OR GROWLING
This loud metallic sound means that you have worn your pads down completely, most likely beyond replacement. The grinding is from the disc and caliper rubbing together. This can score or scratch your rotors, creating an uneven surface. If this happens, donn't be surprised if your mechanic tells you that the rotors need to be turned, or even replaced.
VIBRATION
A vibration or pulsating brake pedal is often a symptom of warped rotors, but can also indicate that your vehicle is out of alignment. It is a sign of warped rotors if the vibration occurs during braking situations when the anti-lock brakes are not engaged.
